Bernie ][ The Rescue Anthology (Starter Kit 3.0)

$

0

Bernie ][ The Rescue is an Apple IIGS emulator (and I believe also emulates the Apple IIe as well, though I've never tested that). Aside from Sweet16 (for Mac OS X), this is easily the best Apple IIGS emulator for Classic Mac OS.

This collection features Bernie 3.0, along with every single version of Bernie ever released, and for those running Mac OS 7.6.1 or below, Appearance Manager is also included. Lots and lots of documentation and support for those who have trouble getting Bernie going is also included (Reading the support documentation requires a browser, I recommend Classilla).

Compatibility:

PPC only as far as know.
Versions 2.6 and above should work on PPC Mac OS 8 all the way up to Mac OS 9.2.2
Versions 2.5.x and below should run on PPC Mac OS 7.6.1 and possibly below, however, the Appearance Manager is required, which is included.
Requires 256 colors.

From Zophar's Domain:

NoSTalgia is the premier Atari ST emulator. It runs most applications and games written for the Atari ST, and has full video and sound support. It is also very fast (though not as fast as it's counterpart PowerST). You will need ROMs to run this emulator.

Atari TOS 2.06 is included.

FusionPC was Microcode Solutions 68k emulator for DOS and Windows 98 or lower.
Fusion can handle many Mac devices like SCSI scanners and drives.
Also many modems or other serial hardware was supported, the PC floppy drive is used for Mac HFS floppies automatically - albeit ony HD floppies can be used due to hardware limitations on the PC side.

Release history of FusionPC

Compatibility:

Minimum Requirements:
66Mhz 80486 CPU
8 megs of memory
20 megs of hard drive space
Macintosh System 7.0.1 software
1.44MB floppy drive
512K Macintosh ROM

Recommended Optimal Configuration:
133Mhz+ Intel Pentium Processor CPU
32megs of memory
250 megs of hard drive space
PCI video card w/3D acceleration
Macintosh System 8.0 software
12x CD-ROM drive
1.44MB floppy drive
1MB Macintosh ROM

Fusion probably was the most compatible Mac emulator for the PC, especially for early OS7 games with 256 colors. Sadly Fusion was never ported to any newer X86 platform, but it works with FreeDOS or DOSBox on many recent X86 rigs flawlessly.

Cover CD of the most excellent Mac Format magazine from May 1997.
To really appreciate these CDs, use a 56K modem for a month.
The waiting, when 5K per second download was good, the phone bills, when you dialled up, and paid attention to the time because you paid by the minute.
Hard-drives had, maybe, a few GB (mine was 1.2GB, I think).
Anyway, enjoy.

BTW, the full, unsplit image is available on this site.

Compatibility:

System 8, MacOS 8.
